Comparison test PA6 with Omnistab LS 5519

In October we introduced the new light stabilizer for Polamide (PA); Omnistab LS 5519. To give more visibility about the performances of this product, we have carried out a comparison test. As a result, we can show the performances of PA6 when tested with and without the new light stabilizer. The test consists of mechanical properties, breaking strength, color fastness and heat aging testing. Firstly, let’s begin with the results of the mechanical properties:

We can conclude from above results, the resistance ability will improve when using the light stabilizer compared to PA6 without any additive. The Melt index will reduce and the charpy notched impact strength increases. It exhibits higher tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural modules. At this point the elongation at break will remain the same, but when we continued testing by looking at the spinning and dying process this will also perform better. Some details about the spinning process before showing the results; screw at 255°C, Cabinet spinning speed at 4000m/min and Metering pump; 30r metering pump specification: 1.2ml/r.

After comparing the testing data, it shows significantly improvement of the breaking strength and elongation at break when adding the new light stabilizer for PA. To clarify, the quality of the nylon spinning product will increase.

After the spinning and dying process, we looked at the color fastness of PA6. One note, when K/S values of different samples differ no more than one at the same color, the dying depth is considered to be small. We did tests with the primary colors red, blue and yellow.

With the results we can conclude that the color fastness of all colors increase by 4 K/s or more. This means the Omnistab LS 5519 improve the dying depth of nylon products significantly. The light stabilizer can improve tinting strength of pigments, enhance the dye ability and performance of nylon fibers. These improvements make efficient use of the dye, thereby reducing costs.

The Heat aging comparison test gave another interesting view of the breaking strength of Nylon. For instance, with the following table, we demonstrate the differences between the breaking strength if we compare PA6 with and without the LS 5519. Without the light stabilizer, the breaking strength of PA6 was reduced by 0.38 cN/dtex after heating. However, if you add the Omnistab LS 5519, the breaking strength is reduced to only 0.07 cN/dtex after heating.

With the above comparison test we can conclude the Omnistab LS 5519 can:

  • Improve the melt stability of nylon,
  • The ability of heat aging resistance of nylon melt,
  • Reduce the fiber breakage rate
  • Improve the stability of pigments.
  • It can remain good color fastness under sun exposure condition.
  • The lifetime and quality will improve
  • Reduce costs of dyes.
