Omnistab Additives in Water-based Coatings

Water-based coating are coatings that uses water as a diluent and does not contain organic solvents. For example, it does not contain benzene, toluene, xylene, formaldehyde, free TDI, toxic heavy metals, non-toxic and irritating odor. Therefor it’s harmless to humans, and less pollution to the environment. It can be used on: wood, metal, plastic, glass, building surface and other materials. In this article we explain more about the coatings and highlight our products.

Water-based Coatings

Oil-based coating refers to a coating made with organic solvents. It contains volatile organic compounds (VOC), which is toxic to humans, pollutes the environment, flammable and explosive. Furthermore, certain variations also contain large amounts of toxic substances. For instance, formaldehyde, benzene, lead and they are “invisible killers” that pollute the environment and are harmfull to consumers’ health. Many countries have formulated strict laws and regulations. This is effected by increasing environmental problems and huge resource and energy consumption. A solution is the environmental protection emission standards. It will limit the emission of volatile organic compounds. All to encourage and promote new products that use green, environmental friendly, energy-saving materials. As a result, water-based coatings are also getting more and more attention, and the output is increasing year by year.


  • Water-based coatings use water as a dispersion medium and only use a small amount of low-toxic organic solvents. It is safe, environmentally friendly and saves resources. It eliminates the risk of fire during construction and helps to reduce air pollution.
  • The adaptability of the water-based coatings to the surface of the material is very good. It applies in humid environment, and the coating has strong adhesion.
  • Both water-based coating containers and tools can be washed with water. You can store unused coating in a cool place, which saves coating resources and reduces the consumption of cleaning solvents.
  • The electrophoretic coating of the water-based coating is uniform, and the flatness is good. You can coat the small gaps and corners with a certain thickness of the coating. The construction is convenient and the protection performance is good.


  • The surface tension of water is much greater than that of organic solvents. Dirt will cause shrinkage of the coating film, the water-based coating requires high cleanliness of the construction surface.
  • It is difficult to moisten and dissolve. Evaporation is easily affected by temperature and humidity. The boiling point of the solvent can control its volatilization rate. Water-based coatings are more difficult to control.
  • Water-based coatings are more prone to sagging compared to solvent-based coatings. The temperature, humidity and viscosity of the coating must be controlled during construction. This to ensure that no sagging occurs during spraying.
  • In the baking process of water-based coatings, problems such as air bubbles and sagging caused by volume shrinkage may occur.

Omnistab Additives

In previous articles we explained about the ultraviolet radiation. It causes chemical reactions on the exposed coating surface. The harmfulness of radiation includes; loss of gloss, color change, powdering, peeling of paint and delamination of the film. For sensitive substrates such as wood and plastics, it is particularly important to choose the appropriate light stabilizer for such materials.

In outdoor applications, the combination of UV absorbers and Light stabilizers can promote each other. It is the best way to maintain the stability of the coating. Omnistab brand has designed professional additives for water-based coatings to reduce UV damage to water-based coatings. UV absorbers such as Omnistab UV 1130, Omnistab UV 400, Omnistab UV 384-2. Light stabilizers such as Omnistab LS 123 and Omnistab LS 292 . These products are low in alkalinity, easy to emulsify, and can be well dispersed in water-based coatings. It will provide comprehensive protection for water-based coatings.

In 2007 we decided to start ICG Specialty Chemicals selling specialty chemicals and additives under the tradename Omnistab.



Partners in Chemicals expanded its business in Middle East by setting up a branch office in Dubai in 2014.

Our Dubai office gives direct access to the Middle East and Africa. Having warehousing facility in the Dubai Free Zone makes it much easier to import, stock and re-export material to different destinations around the globe.




To serve the American market we have set up our Chicago branch office in 2009.



Deltachem (Qingdao) Co. Ltd. has been established in 2012 but general manager Mr. Mike Zou is already since 2007 a business partner for the Omnistab range.

Deltachem is the partner of Choice for Partners in Chemicals.

Besides being responsible for sourcing new products, supplychain and quality controle Deltachem is also managing the production facilities and handles the technical support.
