PE1001 is a high-solids evaporated natural rubber latex concentrate stabilized with potassium hydroxide compared with centrifuged and other ammoniated latex concentrates. PE 1001 has excellent mechanical stability and very high tolerance to loading with filler. Other features are excellent stability to compounding and storage, with good freezethaw resistance and freedom from unpleasant ammonia fumes.
PE1001 compounds are widely used in the carpet industry for primary and secondary backing of tufted carpets and in the production of foam backings and underlays. Compounds based on PE1001 are recommended for producing soft, rubbery backcoatings for textiles (eg upholstery fabrics) and rugs. The high binding power of PE1001 ensures good results in the manufacture of rubberised fibres and reconstituted leather boards. Other applications where the excellent properties of PE1001 may be used to good effect include the production of adhesives, rubberised bituminous mixes, and as an additive to high-alumina cements.
